Different projects in Kemeri National Park
In order to preserve and further evolve the unique nature values in Kemeri National Park there is needed much effort and investments. In 2002 -2006 administration of KNP implemented an EU Life-Nature project "Conservation of wetlands in Kemeri National Park", LIFE2002NAT/LV/8496. Project per 75% was financed by the EU LIFE program. Total costs of the project - 1 925 468 EUR.
Main goal of the project was in start-up of management activities in diverse valuable wetlands - floodplain meadows, rised bogs and mires, seaside lagoon lakes. As a result of project activities, conditions for many rare bird species, including globally threatened Corncrake, Great Snipe and Lesser spotted Eagle, has improved.
EU Structural Funds ERDF project "Development of Nature Protection Infrastructure in Kemeri National Park" was implemented by the administration of Kemeri National Park from January 2005 till the end of 2006. Its main activity was reconstruction of the administration building of Kemeri National Park "Meža māja".
For the first time, Kemeri National Park has applied to European Commission for volunteer support in a project called European Voluntary Service (EVS). It is one of five activities included in “Youth in Action” program managed by European Union. The idea of voluntary service is to let young people from different countries work abroad in new surroundings, get to know other people, their culture and folklore, learn new languages. The work is of social character, without getting paid for it.
Two volunteers, David Perdomo Perez from Spain and Krzysztof Bialik from Poland came to KNP. They are staying here for six months, from May until November. Description of their work
